Eating and Drinking with your Suburbia t across Argentina

The most exciting Saturday nights in Westchester take place wherever Suburbia Roller Derby can be spotted.  This Saturday June 16th, the Botoxic Avengers will seek revenge against their rivals the Country Clubbers.  Both teams fly the Suburbia Roller Derby banner, but solidarity will be hip-checked aside, as sister fights sister on a flat track in Yonkers, NY.

Wine, spirits, and champagne are served on long distance buses in Argentina.

What is Suburbia Roller Derby?

Westchester County is normally a tranquil suburb located north of the Bronx and the rest of New York City.  That is unless a certain group of ladies is on the warpath.  The county only has one women’s flat track roller derby league and it is known as Suburbia Roller Derby.  Suburbia Roller Derby has two home venues for their bouts, both in Yonkers.  They compete indoors at the Police Athletic League during chilly winter months and head to EJ Murray Memorial Skating Center once spring flowers bloom.

The league was founded in 2007 by Slim Fast and Suffah Kate and has expanded dramatically since then.  In general there are two seasons for Suburbia.  The Suburban Brawl and Backyard Bullies represent the WFTDA Eastern region in travel play during the travel season.  The Suburban Brawl are Suburbia Roller Derby’s traveling All-Stars and are currently ranked 12th in the WFTDA East.  They have over 25 bouts under their belts and have seen it all.  The Backyard Bullies are Suburbia’s B-level travel team.  That’s B as in Beatdown.  Since joining the league in 2010 the Backyard Bullies have taken lunch money from teams from New Jersey, Connecticut, and New Hampshire.

One of the true joys of traveling to Argentina is sampling empanadas at pizzerias and bakeries while wearing your Suburbia Roller Derby t-shirt.

Suburbia Roller Derby home teams

When the athletes from Suburbia Roller Derby are not on the road taking on opponents during travel competition they can be found punishing each other in Yonkers.  The second season for the league is known as the home season.  For the home season, league players are separated into 3 intraleague-play home teams.  The three home teams are called Indian Point Sirens, Botoxic Avengers, and Country Clubbers.  These league-mates split up to compete against each other.  While they may be friendly after the match they are brutal from whistle to whistle.

Details for the June 16, 2012 intraleague home season bout

Suburbia Roller Derby is in their home season, so the travel teams have transformed into the home teams.  There will be home bouts in June, July, and August.  Unfortunately World Winder will be unable to attend these exciting matches because we are traveling the world.  But we might have to track down some derby action in Europe.

This Saturday, June 16th, 2012 everybody in the Hudson Valley of New York should head to Yonkers to check out the home season match between the Botoxic Avengers and Country Clubbers.  The bout will take place at EJ Murray Memorial Skating Center in Yonkers, New York.  The address is 348 Tuckahoe Road in Yonkers, NY 10701.  Doors open at 6PM and the action starts at 7.

Excuse me waiter there seems to be a problem. I ordered the large chicken milanesa with french fries platter. This is just not enough food for me.

The halftime show will feature hula hooping by Ms. Dollie Danger, Veronica Vixen, Marisa Moon, Spinning Scorpius, and Ashley Seewald of Lucky Hoop Productions.  If you buy the best seats in the house, they come with a goodie bag, giftcard to Rainwater Grill, and skatetress service.  Make it a full night out in Westchester and catch the after party at Rainwater Grill at 19 Main Street, Hastings on Hudson, NY 10706.  Tryouts for teams are coming up soon so look into their boot camp events.  The organization is always looking for refs and volunteers for events.

During a boat tour I took a drink of water from Iguaza Falls. Apparently I applied too much sunblock. Who invited Uncle Fester?

I received many a stain on my Suburbia Roller Derby t-shirt due to improper empanada consumption in Argentina.
