Peguche is a small village located just north of Otavalo, Ecuador. Famed for textiles and the indigenous artisans who weave them, Peguche boasts a high standard of living for its residents. On September 13, 2011, we took a dusty hike from Otavalo and visited the Nanda Manachi Musician’s Workshop. A local family handcrafts instruments and demonstrates them for visitors. They have toured and brought their Andean sound to many countries. Here is a live taping of some songs performed by the family of Jose Luis Pichimba who operates Taller de Instrumentos Andinos Nanda Manachi.
