As former teachers in New York public schools, Melissa and I traveled during as many school breaks as possible. On four separate holidays over five school years we made a cross-country wind to several parts of California. Between Pasadena’s Rose Parade and Shasta’s high peaks we journeyed to visit friends who had relocated from the New York tri-state area to the West Coast. Catching up with amigos in Long Beach and San Francisco we managed to make trouble but never get caught. Here are some highlights from our final break in April 2011.

Your article gave me a yearnng to visit California. I’ll be checking your articles on Cheap Flights.
Hey Judy. California is a great state to visit any time of the year. San Francisco is my favorite city in the US. It is a walkable city but the buses and cable cars are efficient and make the steep hills more tolerable. Golden Gate Park is a huge green space spanning the area from Haight-Ashbury to the Pacific Ocean.
